Proposed Newberry Road Pedestrian Access Improvement Scheme Report

Report on Public Consultation

A Public Consultation was carried out during November 2018 [see Nov article here] into proposals to improve pedestrian access along Newberry Road between the junction with Longland Lane and the steps to the village car park.

The improvements are in four sections and people were asked to express their support or opposition to the proposals for each section.
In addition, people were asked four questions about themselves: whether they currently walk down Newberry Road, whether they have impaired mobility, how many children they represent and which of the new footpaths they would use.

Respondents were invited to add further comments.

Proposed Newberry Road Pedestrian Access Improvement Scheme

A working group of local residents supported by the Parish Council and Georgeham School have come together to promote a scheme to improve pedestrian access along Newberry Road between Longland Lane and the steps to the village car park.

This length of road includes the very narrow single track section adjacent the village playing field where the road is bounded by high banks and there is no pedestrian footway.

The Parish Council is conducting a consultation during November and residents living along Newberry Road, Glebefield, David’s Hill and Longland Lane will receive a leaflet and questionnaire to be completed and returned to Georgeham Stores (or any Parish Councillor) by 30th November. To see the leaflet follow this link.

Anyone else in the Parish is also welcome to comment and further copies of the leaflet and questionnaire can be obtained from Georgeham Stores.

For more information please contact the Parish Council.

Letter Below from Rachel Walker
Senior Engineer (Special Projects)
Engineering Design Group – Devon County Council

Good morning
I am emailing you to give you advanced notice that Devon County Council will be holding a Public Consultation on the North Devon Link Road (NDLR).

The NDLR is inadequate in performing its multiple functions of a strategic transport link, local route and focus for economic growth.
Devon County Council is consulting on a scheme to improve the section of the NDLR between Borner’s Bridge Junction on the A361 north of South Molton and Heywood Road Roundabout on the A39 north of Bideford to help inform further design work and develop a preferred option.

The potential improvements to the NDLR aim to be the catalyst to facilitate a higher level of economic development by driving forward an ambitious growth strategy for the area as set out in the Local Plan. The scheme will be a substantial improvement to the existing road and address several issues already prevalent along the route.

The Public Consultation will run from the 9th June, 2017 and last for 7 weeks until 28th July, 2017. Public Consultation exhibitions are being held at the following locations to provide information about the preliminary design option for improving this section of the NDLR and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions.

  • Green Lanes (Barnstaple)
  • Town Hall (Bideford)
  • Amory Centre (South Molton)
  • Unmanned Exhibition – Bideford Room – Taw View, Barnstaple

Due to the need to meet the government’s timetable for submission of the funding bid there is a 7-week period for your consideration of the proposals and response. Consequently we are providing advance notice of this in the anticipation that you can meet this deadline. If you see this as a problem please let me know as soon as possible.
I have also attached a poster advertising the exhibitions, which I would be grateful if you could display on your public noticeboards.

Kind regards

Rachel
